My experience with both Basic Med and my primary care physician have been very positive. I went through my insurance and combined the exam with my annual physical through PAMF. If your primary care physician is hesitant about assisting you with the Basic Med exam and paperwork suggest they visit the AOPA site and read up on the requirements and concerns for examining physicians. My doctor had no qualms about doing the exam and filling out the paperwork. I think most physicians are concerned that they may be held liable in the event of an accident that has been caused by a suspected health condition. Overall, I think the Basic Med program is a great benefit to the GA community. It reduces the amount of potential paperwork, time and stress involved with getting an FAA medical exam.
