Electrical Systems and Avionics Course

I am planning to take the EAA SportAir Electrical Systems and Avionics Course on March 7th and 8th in Fremont. Thought I'd put it out there in case anyone would like to join me. Looks like it would be a fun weekend. Here are the details!

I took that avionics course and the fiberglass course. Both very well structured and informative. The facility they do them at is really cool. Most students and the staff stay at the Hampton inn on Landing Parkway.

The fiberglass one is fast paced and takes up the whole day. The avionics one was more moderately paced and I think it gets out slightly earlier on the second day. The literature they send you home with is great too!

Another General Aviation airport goes down

It's unfortunate that the leaders of Monterey Bay Academy have decided to throw the local GA pilots under the bus by allowing Airspace Integration to effectively close the airstrip to GA operations. It is especially frustrating to those of us who have donated hundreds of hours to the upkeep of the strip starting 7 or so years ago. Volunteer pilots from WVI and Frazier Lake regularly mowed the strip, eradicated gophers, filled holes, and helped clear brush. And volunteers have routinely supported education events for MBA students including activities like fly-ins to discuss and demonstrate aircraft, and a group tour of the worlds largest wind tunnel at NASA Ames. Volunteers advocated for equitable access to the strip, but the current "access by reservation" system seems unworkable. Requests to open the airstrip on Sundays, the day after the Seventh Day Adventist Sabbath, and a day that never sees drone operations, have…

Landing at Las Trancas

For those who are unfamiliar, landing at Las Trancas is open to anyone with the appropriate aircraft and experience who has read and acknowledged the RAF briefing for Las Trancas on the airfield guide. The guide is located here at the address below. As stated in the guide, the straight portion of the runway is about 800’ long. We always recommend walking the strip before landing.
